9 Things You Didn’t Know a Bidet Seat Could Do

Here at bidetsPLUS, we spend our days advocating the benefits of bidet toilet seats, and what we’ve found is that many consumers are unaware of the luxurious features beyond simply spraying water that are available on bidets. Sure, it’s a fact that water out-cleans toilet paper, but there is so much more to a modern electric bidet seat. With that in mind, we wanted to explore the extra “bells and whistles” you’ll find on current models. Here are some of our favorite features, all making great reasons to upgrade your bathroom experience:

  1. Electric bidets provide heated seating. After using a heated bidet seat in the cold winter months, you will never want to give it up. The seat temperature settings are adjustable, and you can turn off the feature if you choose.
  2. Bidet seats have a soft-closing seat and lid – no more slamming toilet seats!
  3. The seat has an occupancy sensor. This sensor is built into the seat, so it knows when someone is on it. This occupancy detection is a safety feature, so you don’t mistakenly spray water outside the toilet. It also is how your bidet knows when it is not occupied and can enter its energy-saving mode (similar to how your computer goes to sleep).
  4. A water heater is built inside the bidet seat. All it needs is the existing cold water supply that already connects to the toilet tank. No additional plumbing is required. The water temperature can be adjusted so you can choose how warm you prefer your wash.
  5. The water pressure and nozzle position can be adjusted to best suit your preference. Just as the water temperature can be personalized, so too can the spray pressure and position of the spray nozzle, so you can fully personalize your wash experience.
  6. Bidet seats have automatic self-cleaning wash nozzles. The self-cleaning function rinses the nozzle before and after every use, keeping the nozzle clean and sanitary. Some models even have further enhanced nozzle sanitizing functions like ultraviolet light sterilization or silver oxide sterilization.
  7. Many higher-end bidet toilet seats have deodorizing features. Using a carbon air filter, the deodorizer pulls air from the bowl area and through the filter which can trap particles that cause unpleasant smells.

  8. You don’t need to hire a plumber. With no additional plumbing required and a quick 30-minute setup, bidet seats are designed for a do-it-yourself installation. It’s mostly just unscrewing hoses, and re-attaching them.

  9. Bidets reduce up to 80% of toilet paper consumption. Not only does this save you money in the long run, but it makes bidets a more environmentally friendly option than wiping. You can start reducing your waste today with a bidet toilet seat!
