Loading... Please wait...Many electronic bidet seats these days come with a built-in air deodorizer. The air deodorizer is located on the side of the bidet toilet seat, usually opposite the side where the water intake is located. A frequently asked question is, what scent does the air deodorizer give off? Vanilla? Cherry? The answer is none. In fact, the air deodorizer doesn’t smell at all.
Then how does the bidet seat cover up the smell? You see, that’s the trick. It doesn’t cover up odor. The air deodorizer on your toilet bidet seat is more advanced than that. Your bidet actually adsorbs the odor, as opposed to covering it up!
The bidet seat’s air deodorizer works with an active carbon filtration system. The activated carbon is treated with oxygen, opening up millions of small pores in the carbon. As outside air passes through the filter, a chemical process called adsorption occurs. Not to be confused with “absorption,” adsorption is when the atomic charge of carbon encourages unwanted odors, gases and fumes to abandon their bond with the air. The air then passes through the filter, cleansed of undesirable odor.
The next logical question becomes, how do you get outside air to pass through the deodorizer inside the bidet? The air deodorizer won’t be effective unless you get a large volume of air circulating through it. That’s why there’s an intake fan inside your bidet seat, which sucks the outside air in.
Air deodorizers found on modern electronic bidet toilet seats are actually quite effective, and a great alternative to aerosol based cans which attempt to cover up or mask bathroom odor. People who are sensitive to aerosol deodorants, or other masking agents, will find the bidet seat’s built-in air deodorizer to be a particularly great feature.
To find your air deodorizer, look for a small series of vents on the side of your toilet bidet seat. This series of vents is actually the outside (visible) part of the cartridge which holds the activated carbon. These cartridges can easily be removed, replaced, and re-inserted back into the unit.
Replacing your carbon air deodorizer filter every four to six months is recommended.
